Is thinking about the stress of the holiday’s getting you stressed out already??

Financial demands and an overloaded calendar can create worry and negative emotions as well as sleepless nights. Don’t let the holidays become something you dread this season. Join us at the Hub on Canal in New Smyrna Beach on Sunday, November 20th to learn ways to reduce the stress and anxiety that can descend during the holidays. Learn breathing techniques, Yin Yoga poses, and guided relaxation to lighten your mood and help you sleep better. With a little planning and some positive thinking, you can find peace and joy during the holidays.

The workshop will begin with instruction of Pranayama (moving energy) by using two breathing techniques, Root Chakra activation for grounding and balance in daily activites and Relaxation breath for releasing muscle tension and muscle engagement. Pranayama is considered part of the Yoga of the subtle anatomy however it is a very powerful skill that when practiced consistently can activate the parasympathetic nervous system, also known as the “rest and digest” system. A properly functioning parasympathetic nervous system will boost digestive activity and sleep patterns and lower your bodies heart rate. All of the actions that also reduce stress and anxiety. Pranayama also preps the body for meditation and enhances the effects of Yin Yoga poses.

Following Pranayama, we will review several Yin yoga poses that directly target the connective tissues around the hips and spine; what connective tissues are and how to access those areas in different people with different skeletal structures and flexibility. We will break down the postures and learn their functional objectives, (target area) and offer alternative poses that effect the same target area. There will be hands on adjustments and instructions on use of supportive props such as blankets, blocks and bolsters. The students will be able to enjoy these poses quietly for several minutes before gracefully transitioning to a rest pose called the rebound.

Finally, I will facilitate a guided relaxation and meditation while the students are comfortably seated or in a reclined position. Then we will finish with a long Savasana.

No prior experience as a student is required to attend this workshop!!! Beginner Yogi’s and those practicing yoga for years can benefit from these tools to ease stress and anxiety. We can all take steps to create a more enjoyable holiday experience this year and also in the years to come.
